Janice M. Howell

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Janice M. Howell, 75 of Newark, will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor Gene N. Waters officiating. Entombment will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.

Janice was born in Gallia County, Ohio on May 16, 1936 to the late John Alfred Hayden and Geneva (DeWitt) Miller. She passed away at the Selma Markowitz Care Center on January 30, 2012 while surrounded by her family.

Janice was passionate about working with the mentally challenged. She was also a homemaker and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes and watching the news. She was very friendly, knew no stranger and loved everyone she met.

Survivors include her children, Bernard Howell, Jr. of Newark, Geneva (Robert) Wilson of Purity, Anna Howell of Newark, Emmett Howell of Newark and Aaron (April) Howell of Newton Township; brothers, Bill (Robin) Francis of Zanesville and Steve (Kim) Francis of Heath; sister, Lawanda (Larry) Francis of Hebron; grandchildren, Shane, Christopher, Baylee, Ava, Krista, Greg, Tommy, Skyler and Kaylob; great grandchildren, Bryson, Aaliyah, Katelyn, Justin, Hurley, Xavier, Kaziah and Chloe; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Howell in 1994, whom she married in June, 1963; and one brother, Robert Hayden.

Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
