Janice E. Ossa, age 64, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Janice was born in Columbus on 12/5/1949 to the late Charles and Jaymes (nee O'Neal) Saunders. She graduated from West High School and received her BA in Linguistics from The Ohio State University. Speaking fluent Spanish and Portuguese, Janice moved to Colombia where she spent 11 years teaching English at a bi-cultural institute and several universities. She married and had 3 children while continuing to tutor and to translate medical and legal documents. She loved living there and learned much about how those from other cultures viewed the world and political events. Returning to Columbus in 1980, Janice worked as a Public Information Specialist for the PUCO. She joined Synthesis, Inc., a private behavioral health research company, in 1990. She loved her work and embraced the challenge of learning finances, budgeting, accounting, and information systems. She retired after 24 years as Chief Financial and Information Officer. She loved sports, in particular college football and the Bengals, and listened daily to "The Common Man and The Torg". Janice loved cats and technology equally, so she had several cats, computers, and laptops. She had a sharp wit and an infectious laugh. She was a wonderful life partner and mother. She is survived by her husband, Bill Rubin; children, Luisa M. (John Chappelle) Ossa, Sebastian F. Ossa and Alexandra E. (Dimitri Mavroudis) Ossa; siblings, Charles (Hermione), Leslie (Karen) and O'Neal (Vickie) Saunders; first grandchild Victor Nicolas Chappelle, other relatives and friends. Private arrangements have been entrusted to Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to Ohio Health Foundation, Amethyst, Inc., Cat Welfare, WCBE, Komen for the Cure, the J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center, Inc., or your favorite charity.
