Jay Alan Harris was born on October 4, 1947 in Barnesville, Ohio and died on April 2, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. Jay is survived by his wife Ginny; daughter Amy Harris; son Mark (Lakshmi Kerr) Harris; parents Robert and Jeanne Harris and brother Monte (Nancy) Harris. Jay also leaves behind niece Angela (Robert) Burkhart; nephew Steven (Amber) Harris; grandsons Jamie and Jeremy Younkin and granddaughter Luella Harris-Kerr. Jay is also survived by his special cousin Lanny (Carol) Butler and many other loving cousins.
Jay grew up in Barnesville, OH and graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Business Administration. He worked in the insurance industry for 40 years starting in 1970 with Travelers Insurance and ending with a specialty company in 2010.
He lived in Grandview Heights for 20 years raising two wonderful children. He was so very proud of both and the grandchildren they blessed him with.
Jay has always been a motorhead. His love of cars kept him busy with several restorations and many car shows in several states. He made lasting friendships using his sense of humor to keep people laughing.
Jay loved to travel and did so all over the United States through his work. He enjoyed Germany, England, Wales, Norway and Australia also, but his first love was the Outer Banks of North Carolina where he and Ginny went every year.
Recently Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia robbed him of the quality of life that he deserved. If you would like to remember Jay, the best way is donating so that research can be continued, and a cure found for these horrible diseases.
He will be missed by his wife of 48 years and his children and grandchildren.
Services have been entrusted to Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to either The Parkinson's Foundation (www.parkinson.org) or The Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org).
There will be a celebration of Jay's life at First Alliance Church, 3750 W. Henderson Rd., Columbus, Ohio, 43220 on Saturday April 7, 2018 at 1:00pm with a time of fellowship immediately following.
