

Jean D. Powers, Ph.D., age 84, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio, the only daughter of Dorothy Rawlings, and her step father Arthur. Graduate of Hamilton High School in 1946, she earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s in Genetics, and PhD in Biostatistics from The Ohio State University. She taught at OSU in the Colleges of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine as well as the Dept. of Statistics. She and her late husband were the first husband and wife to each independently receive a Fulbright Scholarship which they used to teach and do research at a Veterinary school in India. She was on the graduate committees of multiple Doctoral students and published over 60 articles in various peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. She rescued dozens of animals which lived out their lives on their farm as well as their home. Jean is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Thomas E. Powers. Survived by children, Dr. Karen (Steven) Heiser, Dr. William (Bonnie) Hensel, Dr. Stephen (Tina) Powers, Michael (Gail) Powers, and Cheryl (Carlos) Marquez, She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bernie Powers; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Mary Smith. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6:30-8:30pm Friday, September 25 at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL 6699 N. High St., where a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 1pm with a reception to follow. Celebrant Andrew Hoover officiating. Private Entombment at Franklin Hills Memorial Garden.
