

Jean Annette (Dowie) Purdy, age 100, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Carriage Court of Grove City. Jean was born on February 22, 1918 in Newark, Ohio to Alexander and Leone (Hoodlett) Dowie. She graduated from Newark High School in 1935. After raising her children she went to work and retired from Columbus City Schools. Her passion was volunteering at Doctors West Hospital for 28 years. Jean enjoyed crocheting and lovingly created 8000 baby hats for the newborns. In 2000 she won the State of Ohio Volunteer of the Year award. Jean was a faithful person. She will be remembered for being a loving mother and grandmother. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Purdy; sons, Robert Bruce Purdy and David William Purdy; sister, Ruth Morris; and grandson, Nathaniel. Survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Mick) Gourley; sons, Wayne and Dean Purdy; grandchildren, Tammi Gourley, Trisha Search, Mickey (Bitsi) Gourley, Michael (Jay) and Miles Purdy, Robert Andrew, Peter (Angelina) Purdy, Marni Purdy, Rene (Bill) Warren and Wayne Straughter; great grandchildren and a great great grandchild; brother, Wayne Dowie; nieces and nephews including special niece, Suzanne Tigges. Family and Friends will gather from 9:30 - 10:30 am on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the HEART and HOPE FUNERAL HOME by SCHOEDINGER, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio where funeral service will follow at 10:30 am with Pastor Lee Cubie officiating. Interment and graveside service at 1:00 pm in Hopewell Cemetery, 20220 Hopewell Rd., Mt.
