

Joan A. Fitzpatrick, 80, a former longtime Shelby resident, died at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus on August 8th following a lengthy illness. She had been most recently a resident of Upper Arlington.
She was born on October 8, 1933 in Lynn, Massachusetts to William and Mary (McManus) McIntyre. She married Arnold B. Fitzpatrick on August 28, 1954 at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Lynn. The Fitzpatricks moved their young family to Ohio in 1960 when Mr. Fitzpatrick accepted a position with the Shelby Mutual Insurance Company, residing in Shelby for nearly 50 years before moving to Upper Arlington. Joan was active in a number of local organizations during her lifetime, including the Heart Fund, for which she volunteered for many years, the Head Start program and the Shelby Public Health Board. Her real estate career, beginning with Tom Mattox and Company, spanned parts of four different decades. She took special pleasure in helping young families purchase their first homes. Joan enjoyed bridge and golf and played in numerous ladies’ and couples’ leagues. She was a member of Shelby Country Club and Westbrook Country Club, where she once scored a hole-in-one on the Par 3, 160 yard #9 hole. She was a parishioner at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby, and St. Timothy’s in Upper Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 17, 2013, and a granddaughter, Erin Kelly Fitzpatrick on March 27, 1994. She is survived by three children: Kevin (Pam) of Burke, Virginia, Keith (Cindy) of Seville, and Kyle (Joe) Corna of Upper Arlington; seven grandchildren: Kevin, Kathryn and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, Kason (Carly) and Kaleb Fitzpatrick, and Colin and Bridget Corna, and two great grandchildren: Colin Fitzpatrick and Arabella Fitzpatrick. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby on Saturday, August 30, 2013 at 10:30AM. Interment will be at a later date at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lynn, Massachusetts. There will be no calling hours.
