Joan Sweeney

Joan F. Sweeney, age 86, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born October 21, 1935 to the late William Bedell and Florence Casey in Brooklyn, New York, and her roots have stayed with her ever since. Joan is survived by children; Joan (Eric) Dentler, Chuck (Suk) Sweeney, Jennifer (Mark) Dopler, and Jim Sweeney, grandchildren; Quinn Dentler, Charlie Dentler, Bode Dopler, and Emma Dopler, cousins; Barbara (Tom) Schneider and Carol (Marvin) DeBolt, along with many other dear family in friends. Joan is going in God's loving arms to join her husband of 57 years, Charlie Sweeney and daughter, Regina Marie Sweeney. Joan was a woman of great faith and a devout Catholic. She enjoyed her years living at the Villas of St. Therese where she made many wonderful friends of both residents and staff. She particularly enjoyed the weekly Patriotic Rosary. Joan retired as an administrator from Subaru of America, where she eventually made sure every member of her family drove a Subaru. A friend to all, Joan's Irish sense of humor and persistent optimism could bring a smile to anyone's face, and her ability to belt out a song or tell a joke made her tell a joke or belt out a song made her the life of every party. A bargain shopper by nature, Joan's favorite outings later in life were to the Goodwill store and Costco. Joan was a bright presence in the lives of both humans and animals. She welcomed family pets to her home and loved watching the deer, squirrels and the birds in the gardens at the Villas. She will be deeply missed by her family and those whose life she touched. The family would like to thank the staff at The Villas at Saint Therese and Mother Angeline McCrory Manor for the all the care, love, and support for Joan. Family will receive friends Friday February 25, 2022, from 4-7PM at SCHOEDINGER EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5360 E. Livingston Ave, with a funeral service the following day, February 26, 2022, at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S High St, at 11:30AM.
