I am the other Joan Vennemeyer, wife of Tom's first cousin Walter.  Being Californians, we  only saw the Ohio Vennemeyer relatives at a few family reunions in Cincinnati or on their visits to San Francisco.  Joan and I met a number of years ago at one of those reunions.  We had instant chemistry and shared a special phone relationship ever since that time, which included much laughter.  Joan always remembered us on our birthdays and would often call just to catch up.  She was so caring and always interested in us.  Walter and I were stunned and saddened by Joan's passing and will miss hearing her voice.  Much love to all of Joan's family.

Joan you were a real winner.  To Joe you & Clara you were their “Joan Baby”...you won wonderful parents. You won with 11 sisters + 1 Angel in Heaven, Patty. Of course you won with a handful of brothers to be there for you.  Then you married that Marine, Tom and a real winner. Your children: Angela, Matthew, and Thomas were magnificent were your treasures. These were the important winnings. However, along the way you had many material wins from Oakley to Dublin to Vegas to California as well as thousands of “Good Deals” which you shared with your siblings and friends. Joan Baby you were a real WINNER.  Please say hi to Patty, Mom & Dad, Chris,Rosy, Scotty and Maki.

Dear Tom and Family, We just viewed the video and loved it!   Seeing Joan with dark hair at the same time I had dark hair takes me back to 1976-1984 when we were all living on Apache Circle.  Such a great place to raise kids and make friends. 
 
Joan added her special skills as a "treasure hunter" and could often be seen in her powder blue VW bug, off on the hunt!  She was energetic, savvy, and generous.  Tom, do you remember bringing a complete dining room set (table, two leaves, eight chairs, and buffet) to our new home on Madeira Hills with Dave?  The table was on top of our Ford LTD station wagon!   The set was with us until I sold that home in 2014.  We here in Chicago still have two of Joan's "finds" and the Freys have a lovely credenza in their Richmond, VA home.  

I am so grateful to Angie for getting my current phone number for Joan.  In mid-September we enjoyed a lengthy chat, catching up on each other's lives.  She was so pleased to report that Matt was going to be a father in November.  Little did we know.....

Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and in the days ahead.

Joan,thanks for "pretending" to be my mom when you brought cupcakes to my first grade party at Oakley School. I probably should have prepared you for the little white lie I told my classmates! They all thought you were the prettiest Mom that year! Love from your little sister Moe.

Losing Joan hurts so much and it feels like it always will.  She was the best of us.  She IS the best of us.  Her goodness will not die with her.  She taught me so many things.  I didn't even know I was learning from her but I was.  I loved hanging out with her.  She's been such a big help to me over the years.  Life just got grayer and so much sadder and a lot harder.  We all lost a wonderful woman this week and I hope she will help the rest of her siblings and her loving family through this life.

Dear Tom, children, brothers and sisters of my beautiful, fun loving friend.. May God hold and keep her in His arms.   I met Joan at the Dublin Recreation Center several years ago.   
 We loved "boutique" shopping and often were mistaken as "sisters".  What a beautiful compliment!  I can't begin to express my sadness.  I can hardly even to begin to feel your loss.  She was such a special person and I will miss her terribly.  I extend my deepest sympathy and pray that God will bless all of you during this most difficult time.

I met Joan through our husbands' Marine Corps reunions. One year, the Recon Association reunion was held in Reno on July 9-11th. At the banquet, on Saturday night - July 10th, her birthday- Joan was sitting next to me and she said 'it was so nice of them to throw me such a great party (smiling ear to ear) - i don't think Tom even remembers it my birthday- but that's ok'.  She had donated a string of pearls for the raffle, which i won- and she was so happy for me-  quipped one day she might give me the bracelet to match. She was always a fun gal to hang out with; independent, funny, not afraid to venture out on her own. When we went to the casino, she was warmly greeted by ALL the staff, she did love to gamble! I will certainly miss her and her cheery company!

My favorite .memory of my sister is one she shared with me. “It was not all grim doing the kitchen chores (as children).  The girls did a lot of dancing while cleaning up the kitchen.  After the kitchen was cleaned, they would go outside and play baseball and football.
The boys never had to do kitchen chores.

Joan was truly the best big sister.  She was always there for us as kids.  She would invite us to visit her at work, take us to lunch and shop with us.  She never treated us like kids.  She was so much fun, always.  I will miss her so very much.      Nora
