Joe Walter Hess

Joe Walter Hess, age 71, a beloved husband, brother and friend, died August 31, 2015. Joe was born in Columbus, OH on December 1, 1943, the son of Walter Earl and Ruth Lucile (Connolly) Hess who preceded him in death. He was a math teacher retiring from Columbus City Schools. Joe graduated from Linden McKinley High School, Capital University and The Ohio State University. Joe was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Men’s Prayer Group. He loved life and lived it to its fullest. He was very active in volunteering including driving the bus for Kensington. He enjoyed sports and participated in golf, bowling and softball. He also enjoyed lawn mowing. Joe is survived by his wife Sharon; sisters Joy McFadden (Mary Beth Hackett) and Celinda (Marty) Martindale; aunt Ione Connolly; sister-in-law Marilyn (John) Cornell; brother-in-law Paul (Pat) Tack; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many golf and church friends. Friends may call Thursday 2-5 and 6-8pm at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. (at Beecher Rd.) A funeral service will be held at 10am Friday, September 4, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E. Main St., Bexley, OH 43209, where the family will receive friends 9-10am. Pastors Tim Iseringhausen and Denny Asp will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family suggest that contributions be made to Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund or Charity Newsies, 4300 Indianola Ave., Columbus, OH 43214.
