Joel G. Sheffey

Joel G. Sheffey, 73, of Columbus, passed away at his residence on January 28, 2018. Born in Manhattan on April 29, 1944 to the late James and Eneid (Gordon) Sheffey, He is survived by his wife Hernilda, son Atul, daughter Yasmin, granddaughter Layla Rosella and sister Thea Sheffey. Joel graduated from De Witt Clinton High School in the Bronx with an Academic Diploma in 1961 and went on to attend Lincoln University (where he met his wife, Hernilda) prior to joining the United States Air Force from 1964-68. His military education included electrician, missile maintenance and systems repair. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended New School for Social Research. His work experiences were many and varied throughout his life and his hobbies, disciplines and interest were diverse as well. He enjoyed Kung-Fu, Karate, Tai Chi, meditation, piano, clarinet, steel drums, oil painting, water colors, sports, reading and history of all kinds. He most recently worked at Honda of Marysville. He was a dedicated member of Nichiren Buddhism (SGI USA).Visitation will be held Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 1-2PM with a ceremony taking place at 2PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Zusman Hospice or Ohio State Comprehensive Transplant Center.
