John Norman Ackerman

John Norman Ackerman, age 85, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017. John was born on February 6, 1932 in Bucyrus to CW and Ethel Ackerman. He graduated from Bucyrus High School. He served his country proudly in the US Navy from 1956 - 57. He went on to work for DCSC retiring in 1989. John studied piano at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Capital University. He received his BA and MA in Music from The Ohio State University. John taught piano for 25 years. He worked for the Poll Worker for Franklin County for many years. John was a member of the Ohio Music Teachers Association, The Saturday Music Club and New Apostolic Church. John studied boxing under Mike Johnson at Blackburn Recreation Center.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 ½ years Dorothy; parents and brother-in-law, Fred Frey. Survived by his sister, Joan Frey; brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bowyer; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 10 -11:00 am at HOPE and HEART FUNERAL HOME by SCHOEDINGER, 3030 W. Broad St., where funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with Elder Henry Smith officiating. Private Interment at Sunset Cemetery.
