John J. Beckman

John Joseph Beckman Sr. (Johnnie) age 79 formerly of Columbus, OH passed away at his home in Haines City, FL on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009. John was born to the late Joseph and Grace Beckman (Von Boeckman) in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 15, 1930. John grew up with four brothers who survive him; Richard (Lovetta), Rodney (Hazel), Kelly (Linda), Larry (Colleen) and a sister Vivian Miller, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Joye (Rouse) married March 13, 1978, died November 23, 2006; and sister, Grace Marie Beckman. John has three surviving sons and one daughter; John Jr. (Goldie), Jim (Connie), Terry (Pam) and Tina Sled (Michael) and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John and Barbara both worked at and retired from COTA, and were married for 28 1/2 years. John was an avid skater, bowler, golfer and storyteller. His smile always preceded his pranks and jokes. John was a loving father and husband. He made friends easily and treated everyone with respect. His outlook on life was amazingly positive. John was always a joy to be around, and will be missed by all who ever knew him. Funeral services 10am Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, where family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8pm. Interment in North lawn Memory Gardens.
