John Camden Emrick, 97, passed away peacefully in his home of over 50 years on February 24, 2025. A man of remarkable skill, warmth, and humor, John was known for his sharp memory, endless stories, and the deep love he held for his family and friends.
John built a prosperous career as a financial manager for Ohio Furnace Company, all while tending to his cherished family farm. A true problem-solver, he could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He took great pride in passing down his skills to his children, teaching them the value of resourcefulness and perseverance. He had a lifelong love for chocolate, good company, and his morning coffee outings with friends. John often credited his longevity to years of biking through Upper Arlington and completing the daily crossword puzzle in the Columbus Dispatch.
Family was John’s greatest joy. He valued bringing loved ones together for his annual Christmas party, reminiscing over stories, and sharing home movies with his nieces and nephews. He found comfort in life’s simple moments—relaxing on his front porch on sunny afternoons and unwinding in the evenings with Wheel of Fortune followed by Jeopardy! A fan of British humor, he especially loved A Fish Called Wanda. On beautiful days, he took pleasure in scenic drives along the Scioto River, feeding the ducks with his family.
John is survived by his loving daughters, Susan Ormond and Melinda Carpenter, his son-in-law, David Carpenter and his cherished grandchildren, Sean Ormond, Julia Ormond, Rachael Ormond, Matthew Carpenter and Marianne Carpenter. He is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 41 years, Mary Ann Emrick, his eldest daughter, Janet Carol Emrick, and devoted friend, Joan Hamilton.
John’s family is deeply grateful to Patty Harbarger, Theresa Fogle, and Tiffany Gillenwater for their unwavering care, kindness, and companionship, filling his final years with love, laughter, and dignity. They also extend heartfelt thanks to the many family members and dear friends whose visits brought joy and warmth to his days.
