John Christopher Havens

Chris was born in Columbus, Ohio and was the eldest son of John F. and Sally Havens of Hidden Meadow Farm in Delaware, Ohio. He will be greatly missed by his mother, his sister; Ellen Hardymon and her husband Mark, his brother; Thomas Havens and Chris’ youngest sister; Suzanne Nick and her husband Philipp. He will be also be missed by his first cousin and life-long confidant, Jeffrey Ross.

He is survived by nephews and nieces, John and Michaella Havens, Parker Havens, Elizabeth Nick and her husband Ben Pryor, Emily Nick and Elliot Nick and his partner Thomas Molash. Chris is preceded in death by his father, John F. Havens.

Chris graduated high school in 1971 from the Kiski School in Leechburg, Pennsylvania after which he attended Muskingum University where he lettered in cross-country, track and soccer.

Early in his career, Chris worked independently and then later joined the family office. He helped establish The Franklin Foundation, the family’s private non-profit organization that provides affordable housing for seniors throughout the state of Ohio. He served on the board until his passing and will fondly be remembered for his constant generosity to the many residents of the foundation’s communities.

Chris enjoyed joining his father and uncle as a member of The Athletic Club of Columbus. He also enjoyed serving on the Board of Trustees of The Columbus Historical Society. He had a keen life-long interest in his family’s genealogy passed down from his paternal grandmother, Nola Havens and was an avid collector of guitars, first edition stamps and rare coins.

A private family service will be held at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery in Marietta, Ohio where Chris will be laid to rest with five generations of his family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Nawaf Abass, with Always There Home Care and Ohio Health Hospice for the care they gave Chris during his illness.

Chris will always be remembered for his unassuming and quiet manner.
