

John Holman McFadden, age 78, passed away in the presence of his loving family Thursday, February 9, 2012, succumbing to cancer. John was born in Pittsburgh, PA, son of John Holman and Lenore Powell McFadden, and grew up in Orlando, FL. After studying Chemistry and Billiards at Emory University, John joined the Navy as a pilot and flew a myriad of aircraft including the F4D Skyray, F-100 Super Sabre, and the A-5 Vigilante. Serving in Vietnam, John earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat "V", and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. His hobby, restoring classic Jaguar cars, brought him national prominence with his 1954 XK-120 twice winning first place in its class in the Concours d'Elegance. John was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Bexley, OH, for over 40 years, serving on the Church Council, singing in the choir, serving often as a lector, communion assistant, and member of the Tuesday ROMEO and Lunch Bunch Club. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, and the Jaguar Club of Central Ohio. John will be remembered for his playful, outrageous sense of humor, his computer savvy and helpfulness, and as a wonderful husband and father.
John was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila Bynum. He is survived by his wife Jane; sons John D. (Kristi) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kevin S. (Sarah), of Buffalo, NY; daughters Jetta Sharpe, Dana McFadden, and Autumn McFadden, of Orlando, FL; grandchildren Jenna, Jack, and Kara McFadden, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives.
Visiting hours will be 3-6 pm Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. Funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, February 13, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E. Main St., Bexley, with visiting one hour prior to the funeral. Pastors Tim Iseringhausen, Tom Wolfe, and Denny Asp will officiate. John will be laid to rest with military honors at Union Grove Cemetery in Canal Winchester. Donations in his memory may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church.
