

Dr. Joseph C. Franz, age 60 of Powell, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Doc Joe, son of the late George and Dorothy Franz, was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia and grew up in Bridgeport, West Virginia. He graduated from WVU Medical School and retired as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Doc Joe most recently worked at O.S.U. Student Health Center and OhioHealth before opening Village Medical Office in 1999. He was also the owner and founder of SPORT SAFE Testing Service. Doc Joe was a compassionate and caring man who treated his patients as if they were family. Doc Joe loved God and served as a longtime member of Powell United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School for senior high youth and was a leader of Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Olentangy. Doc Joe enjoyed pottery, carpentry and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 42 years and lifetime sweetheart, Linda Barrick Franz; children, Heidi Jo (Jon) Woolard, Christopher (Kisha) Franz, Clifton (Andrea) Franz and Matthew (Elizabeth) Franz; 8 grandchildren; brother, George “Fritz” (Jan) Franz; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Powell United Methodist Church, 825 E. Olentangy St., Powell. Family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-7 P.M. Saturday at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. Pastor Larry Brown officiating.
