Please allow me to extend my deepest sympathy during this difficult time to your family.    I know the pain of losing a someone close.  The scriptures have really helped me and I wanted to share some with your family.  Like, in knowing that Jehovah God loves us, he is near to those that are broken at heart and those that are crushed in spirit he saves - Psalms 34:18; Psalms 83:18. One day soon, "no resident will say: I am sick" - Isaiah 33:24.     John 5:28,29 gives hope of a future resurrection and Revelation 21:3,4 speaks of a time when death, mourning, or pain will be no more.   Jesus at John 11:11 said to his disciples, "Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep."  We can have faith in these promises.    I had also personally wondered why God has temporarily allowed the suffering and death that surrounds us.   I found the answers in the bible. It can bring much comfort to know the answers. After moving to the Columbus area from out of state in late 2004, our family had to find a new physician.  On the recommendation of a friend, we started seeing Doc Joe.  Doc Joe was a wonderful and caring physician and friend.  He will be greatly missed.  Praying for your comfort.

A life well lived.  I knew Dr Franz through the Reserves.  He made being a "weekend warrior" fun.  I was honored to see our picture in his video tribute. I think it was taken at one of our "horrible" summer camps in Hawaii.  My condolences to your entire family.

Dr.Joe was one of the most caring people I've ever met. He understood his patients so well and showed empathy to so many. I will miss his sheepish smile and knowing that you was in the company of someone who REALLY cared. Doc Joe litterally changed my life. When my life was at the lowest valley Dr. Franz came along as not only a doctor, but a friend as well and let me knwo that by having faith in God everything would be ok and having the time with Doc Joe litterally saved my life and knowing that he was the man to help do this gives me great inspiration to live my life fully and know that I was touched by a man who was nice, friendly and one of a kind.

Dr. Joe was one of the greatest men that I have ever known. He was like a father to me, even though younger than I. He was a major reason I could cope with my loss. 
Years ago he cured one of my sons when another doctor told me to expect his death. He did the same miracle for my daughter.
He was a physician with a minor in phychiatry. I feel that he knew me a little more than myself.
His religous faith was expressed in real-time life.

Lit a candle in memory of Joseph Carl "Doc Joe" Franz

God truly broke the mould after this man.  Dr. Franz knew no stranger and had the power to welcome anyone as a friend.  Most people are afraid of their doctor and fear each time they have to face them because they know it is a reality check and that their body is getting older.  Not with Dr. Franz.  His warm heart and inspirational ability to fight such terrible things, like cancer, with a smile provided him the unique ability to recognize people's problems.  He could recognize the problems that medical tools couldn't and offer up that hug that always seemed to make everything much better.  He knew the key to surviving through lifes' challenges and would be the first to share that wonderful secret, the power of Christ, with everyone.  God's power was truly bright in Dr. Franz and though they certainly don't make many doctors like him any more, God made Joseph Franz for all of us that knew him.  Now we must carry on his messages, hugs and memories and hopefully make life just a little bit more special for others like he did, so many times, for all of us.

As our doctor and friend, Doc Joe blessed us personally by his warmth, love and generosity. We looked forward to having him stop by our little shop in Powell, "Heaven on Earth Home," for a chat between patients or over his lunch hour. Customers loved his pottery and even came in asking for it! He was well respected and deeply loved by so many. We will miss him very much. We will always remember "Doc Joe" in our family gatherings.  Even though he had been through so much, he still had that nice smile & laugh when he would tell us something funny.  He fought a tough battle but never seemed to show it because he still would be smiling & talking as if nothing was wrong.  May God Bless his family & help them through this time of need.

This is a huge loss for the community, family and humanity. Doc Joe always had a smile, time, kindness and God's love to share with those around him. He left the world a better place, by being in it! Doc was the most caring individual I dealt with during all of my middle and high school athletic years. It didn't matter if your leg was falling off or just needed a couple of stitches, he had a way to calm you down and have a laugh. There's such a void that could never be filled with his loss.

Dear Linda and family,
Our words cannot express the sorrow we feel. There are so few people that we’ve met throughout our lives that have touched us in the many ways Doc has. He was not only our family doc, but he was our friend, confidant and encourager. He was always there for us (and many others) in time of need. He would selflessly give of himself to enrich the lives of those who knew him. Although his vocation was taking care of our physical needs, his true calling was a ministry of love - giving of his time and sharing witness through the reflection of his life in glory to the Lord. His passion for young people is well know and has created a lasting legacy that will live on through the lives of those he has touched.  
We will miss our friend, but we know that he has been welcomed into heaven with the words, “Welcome, thou good and faithful servant, Joe Franz. Enter into the joy of the Lord”.

I have known the Franz family since I moved here in 1998. Doc Joe became my Doctor in April of 2001. I knew Chris from working with him and I knew his dad was a doctor and I needed a Doctor ASAP. So I walked into his office with no appointment. See I had suffered a heart attack. With no questions asked he calmed me down and he confirmed that yes I did have a heart issue.(it turned into one stent needed to be put in)  I truly believe to this day If it was not for Doc Joe I would not be here. He often told me if I neeed him he would be there to calm me down. This is who he was a caring and a thoughtful man and doc. I will alway remember the Easter and thanksgiving day gatherings at Doc Joe's house. He would always invite me over since he new I had no family in town and he did not want me to spend it alone.  I will never forget  our rocket blast offs and how he enjoyed them so much.  I could go on these are just a few memories of many 
 He will be truly missed and I will him miss him greatly.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Franz family

Dave and Trinity Huffman purchased the Fireside Basket - Blue, Yellow and White for the family of Joseph Carl "Doc Joe" Franz.

Oh my, how sad!  Doc Joe meant everything to our family!  My son Trinity was very close to him during football at Olentangy back in the early 90's.  He was so kind and thoughtful, he assisted us during my son Tim's funeral in 1995.   Without him I don't know what we would have done!  He spoke at the funeral and those words have never escaped me.  What a wonderful man he was!  Bless you Doc Joe and I pray that your ever loving arms are around Tim right now!
