

Joseph V. Lyons, 80, of Columbus, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at his home. He was born April 15, 1930 in Columbus. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany, Italy, Korea, and the Viet Nam War. He retired from COTA. Joe was a lifelong member of VFW #495, American Legion #532, AMVETS Post #1928, where he was active in the color guard, and NAUS. Preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Howard Lyons; wife, Virginia “Ginny”; and his beloved dog, Jake. Joe is survived by his children, Vern (Jennifer) Lyons of Newark, Randy Lyons of Marysville, and Rose Mary (Cliff) Baker of Grove City; his children’s mother, Maria Garner; grandchildren, Michael Lyons of Columbus, Christopher and Emily Lyons of Marysville, Timothy (Jessica) Baker of Galloway, and Danialle (Scott) Hayhurst of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Daniel, Jacob, Nixon, Ava, and soon to be born, Tripp; and special close friends, Jesse Wells and Patricia Chambers. A special thank-you to Jesse Wells, Patricia Chambers, hospice nurses, Joyce and Tina. Joe’s family expresses deep gratitude to Jesse Wells for the care given for Dad. Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with an Amvets service at 7:30 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 W. Broad St., Columbus, where the funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Interment in Sunset Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the American Legion #532. A Celebration will be held immediately following the graveside services at the AMVETS on Sullivant Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to Capital Area Humane Society, 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Ct., Hilliard, OH 43026.
