Josette B. Wilburn

Josette B. Wilburn, age 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Josette was born on October 12, 1928 in Nanterre, France to the late Jacques and Suzanne (Thomann) Filippi. Also preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years Charles W. Wilburn. Josette honed her multi-language skills in occupied France during WWII and during liberation and post war reconstruction in France and England, emigrating to the United States in 1960. She was a Professor of French language and literature for many years at Denison University. Upon retirement, Josette was an active member of the Alliance Francaise and various French language and culture clubs and organizations in Columbus. Josette will be deeply missed by her loving children Bernard Wilburn, Caroline Meckstroth and Mary Jane Wilburn; grandchildren Miles Wilburn, Lake Wilburn, Opal Love and Kieran Scarlett JasmineBee Love; sister Denise Copeland; and niece Marie Paule Goislard. Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am on Friday, March 21, 2025 where a Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00am at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. Burial will be held at 2:00pm at Twin Township Cemetery, Bourneville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
