

Kurt Vick, born June 4th, 1966, at Eglin Air Force Base, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, passed peacefully at home on January 20th in Columbus, Ohio. He is preceded in death by step-father, Dr. John F. Guilmartin, and survived by: his loving mother, Lore Guilmartin; devoted sister and sister-in-law, Karla Vick and Kelly Downes; beloved niece and nephew, Haley and Ranon Varney; supportive brother-in-law, Perry Varney; step-sisters, Lore and Eugenia Guilmartin; extended family and friends in California, Washington, Texas and the East Coast; and his adored family dogs, Wolfie and Sadie.
Kurt was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, East Texas Area Council of The Boy Scouts of America, and earned his graduation diploma and athletic awards as a top-performer on the Boys Soccer Team at Lufkin High School in Lufkin, Texas, in 1984 before enlisting in the United States Navy and serving 5-years on the USS Mars in Operation Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf War.
Completing his military service at the Naval Operations Support Center based in Alameda, California, Kurt rejoined his family in Columbus and worked locally as a reprographics manager and landscaping designer/crew chief for several years, in addition to serving at the Cincinnati VA hospital, and happily assisting friends and family members whenever he was needed. He was an avid music fan, and lover of nature and being in the great outdoors.
Kurt will receive a military honors funeral - "Honoring Those Who Served" - at the Dayton National Cemetery in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made "In Memory of Kurt Vick" to the United States Veterans' Administration, Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center, Recovery Services Dept. #116, 420 N. James Road, Columbus, OH 43219.
