

Lawrence E. Sopko, age 71, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on September 27, 1939, to the late Paul and Helen Sopko. Larry graduated with a BSBA in 1962 from Villanova University, where he lettered in football and baseball. He then started a career in sales, beginning in insurance, and then moving to automotive sales. He has worked the last 20 years in commercial truck sales, most recently for Jack Maxton Chevrolet. He was a member of St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Larry loved golf, the Cincinnati Bengals, and Ohio State Football, as well as the OSU Marching Band. He was kind, friendly, and personable, known as “Uncle Larry” to all who met him. He will be missed by his wife of 23 years, Kathleen Sopko; children, Elizabeth Sopko, Jessica (Jason) Bruce, Natalie Sopko (fiancé Tim Wilfong), and step-daughter, Mitzi Wellman; grandchildren, Chase Wellman and Lani Price; brother- and sister-in-law, George and Bobbi Fee; nieces and nephews, Leslie Orr, Jeff Sopko, David Sopko, Lynn Skinner, Jenny Gilbert, and Evan Sopko; and many great friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Sopko. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
