

He was born October 31, 1923, to Wilbert and Jessie (Jay) Turnbull in Gahanna, Ohio. He was a self-employed masonry contractor for more than 50 years and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marines. Mr. Turnbull was a 2002 Gahanna Lincoln High School Graduate when WWII vets who left high school early to join the service were awarded diplomas. He was a 75-year member of Mifflin Presbyterian Church in Gahanna. In retirement, golfing was his greatest pass time and he was able to do so until the age of 93. He had 4 holes in one, all on #7 at Broadview Golf Course in Pataskala. He and Catherine enjoyed decades of winters in Florida, camping in their motorhome where they played lots of euchre with friends and other family members. He took great pride in caring for their 3-acre homestead which he built himself.
Mr. Turnbull is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Catherine. He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (Mike) Fritz, son, Roger (Julie), grandchildren, Cory (Sarah) Fritz, Alex (Andrea Laizer Fritz), Kelli (Jonathan) Plona and 3 great grandchildren: Hazel and Elliot Plona, Teddy Fritz. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Shirley Turnbull, many nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sister, Mabel Schneider, brothers, Lester, John, Wilbur, Walter, Donald and James.
A grave side service will be held at 12:00 pm on October 20, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens at 5600 East Broad St Columbus, OH with Rev. Jon Carlisle officiating.
