

Linda L. Hallberg, 87, of Columbus, OH., passed away on February 23, 2022, of natural causes. She was born on October 11, 1934, in Anna, Illinois. Her parents were Edmond and Alice McCree. After graduating from Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1952, she majored in English at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, eventually graduating from Carthage College in 1956. She married Rev. Dale W. Hallberg in 1957. As the wife of a Lutheran pastor, she devoted 38 years of her life to church congregations in Grand Rapids, MI., Racine, WI., Allentown, PA., and Rockford, IL. She spent many of those years working as an elementary school teacher, focusing on dramatic arts. In 2004, she earned a Master of Divinity degree at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, SC. She spent her remaining years as a supply preacher to congregations of the Southern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran in America and remained active for many years at Christ Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio.
She loved to sing, laugh, paint, read mysteries, write poetry, tend her garden, and travel the world. In her college years, she spent time in New York City helping friends Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt promote and develop their musical, The Fantasticks. She was a gifted soprano and always loved entertaining audiences by singing the songs of her favorite Broadway musicals.
Linda was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Kristin Mathews, Kerry (Richard) Fankhauser, Gretchen (Brian) Cuddy, Joel (Cristina Parente) Hallberg; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 East Main St., Bexley, Ohio 43209.
