Linda Lee Hughes

Linda Lee Hughes, 67, of Columbus, died Monday, February 17, 2014. She was born November 18, 1946 in Columbus and raised by her grandparents, the late Eloise and Lowell Defenbaugh. She was a 1964 graduate of Central High School where she was a member of the Alumni Association and received her Bachelor in Business Administration and Accounting from Franklin University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Linda began her career in insurance in 1964 at Beacon Insurance, working her way up the ladder, achieving VP of Administration during her 30 years there. In 1994 she helped create Great Oaks Insurance Co. and most recently was senior resource center representative with PIAA. She was a member of Karl Rd. Christian Church. Linda was a highly respected, well-connected woman in an industry that had become her home, her family and passion. She was a friend to everyone, always positive and her joyfulness was boundless. She is survived by her brother Jerry Hughes, niece Monica Myers and great nephew and godson Mason Myers, nephew Bradley (Samantha) Hughes and great niece Vivian Hughes. Family will receive friends Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 9AM until time of service at 11 AM at Karl Rd. Christian Church, 5400 Karl Rd. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM at Maple Hill Cemetery, Stoutsville, OH. SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
