Lois Hughes

Lois McEwen Hughes, age 98, of Delaware, Ohio passed away peacefully on November 7, 2020 at home. She was born on March 18, 1922 in Bangor, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wm. Homer and Eliza McEwen; her husband of 59 years, Rev. Richard L. Hughes Jr; son, Richard L. Hughes III; and her brothers, Homer Jr. and Howard McEwen.

Lois took great pride in her role of minister’s wife supporting the work of the Lord in everything she did, as a spiritual leader or sharing her beautiful voice in the choir. She was an accomplished seamstress; often having made the dresses her three daughters wore as they grew up. It was her pleasure to prepare fine dinners for her family whenever they gathered. Lois had the most beautiful smile and truly knew how to light up the room. She never knew a stranger and was kind to everyone she met.

She is survived by her children, Stephen (Robin) Hughes, Sharon Mills, Cynthia (Ron) Smith, and Deborah (Jack) Wheeler; Grandchildren, Kara (John) Cappellano, Aaron (Lisa) Mills, Mark (Nicole) Smith, Richard Hughes IV, Tim (Mindy) McClure, Sarah (Jason) Hammond, Laura Wheeler, Jacob (Tara) Wheeler and Mark (Carli) McClure; great grandchildren, Julie and Traci Cappellano, Matthew and Benjamin McClure, Abigail, Owen and Luke Smith, Madeline and Henry Hammond; great-great grandchildren, Tia and Tori Jablonski.

A special thank you to all of her wonderful caregivers, especially her daughter Sharon Mills and staff from Right at Home and Vitas.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday November 15, 2020 at 1 pm at Powell United Methodist Church, 825 E Olentangy St #1, Powell, OH 43065. Interment will follow at a later date at the Richmond Methodist cemetery, Bangor, PA at the convenience of the family.
