Luella May "Polly" Stockdale, age 82, of Mount Gilead, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, October 19th, 2012, at Bennington Glen Nursing Home in Marengo, Ohio. Born October 28, 1929, in Knox County, Ohio, a second daughter to the late Joseph Orville and Ezzie Mildred
(Shepard) Mills. Polly, as she was known to family and friends, was fun loving and a had a wonderful way of sharing family stories.
Second marriages for both, Polly and Gene Stockdale, married June 26th, 1960 in Centerburg, Ohio. The new combined family made their home in Edison. Life was not exactly as depicted on "The Brady Bunch", the popular TV series of the late 60's and 70's, but Polly prided herself in creating a beautiful home for her family. She painted, papered, scrubbed and polished till she was satisfied, then she sat down at her sewing machine and made curtains, drapes, and upholstered furniture until she had made their house a home. She did all this to make a blended family of six kids become one family. It worked!
She worked outside the home as the kids grew. She was an Avon lady, then worked at Cosmo, the plastic factory, and later became a bank teller at 1st National Bank in Mount Gilead. Combining her love for the American southwest and banking, Polly moved to the Phoenix area in
1977 where she lived for 27 years. After retirement and some health concerns, she relocated back to Morrow County to be near family.
Left to celebrate her life are her daughters, Carol Sue "Susie" Heslin of Sparks, Nevada, and Debbie Crouse of Edison; grandchildren, Tom and Larry (Jill) Heslin in California; Angela, Josh, Jasmine, Melody and Joel Stockdale, Lisa (Rich) Cook, Jeana (Angelo) Naticchioni all living in New England; Robb (Beth), Kristea Crouse of Seattle, Alicia Ford, Tiffany Clayton, Matt Petrin, David Stockdale of Ft. Myers, Florida; brothers, Paul Mills of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Harold "Si"
Mills of Ney, Ohio, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Polly was preceded in death by brothers:
Harvey, Denver, Howard, Robert and a sister, Wilma and sons: Larry, Gene, James, and Danny.
Honoring Polly's request there was only a bedside prayer in lieu of a public service or burial as she had donated her remains to science.
Due to her lifelong love of animals, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Humane Society of Morrow County, P.O. Box 298, Mount Gilead, OH or because of their wonderful care and support to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South Street, Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
