Lugene Patilla

Lugene was the son of the late William “Sam” and Gertrude Patilla. Gene, as he was called by family and friends, was born in Camilla, Thomas County, Georgia. His parents relocated to Moultrie, Georgia where Lugene attended Colquitt County Schools, graduating in 1960 from William Bryant High.

Lugene first moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida after which he relocated again to Columbus, Ohio. He married his first wife, Mary Palmer, of Cedartown, Georgia. From this union, 3 children were born: Kim Patilla Walker (Thomas), Lugene Patilla, Jr., and Eric Patilla.

Lugene was a hard worker. He worked 8 years at Westinghouse, and over 20 plus years for the Columbus School Board.

Lugene was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gertrude Patilla; his siblings, Doris Brown, Miriam Edward, Tommy Lee Griffin, and Susie Humphrey; his step-daughter, Tamara Bridges; and his granddaughter, Desoray Nata Patilla.

Lugene leaves to cherish his memory devoted wife, Ethel Bridges Patilla; his 3 children; his 5 step-children; his grandson, Durrell Patilla; his great-granddaughter, Damiya Tarpeh; his siblings, Sam Patilla of Columbus, OH, Louise Coes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Mattie Ruth Patilla of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; a host of nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Family will accept friends from 10:00am to 11:00am on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Advantage by Schoedinger North, 5554 Karl Rd, Columbus, OH. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am on Friday, February 16, 2024 with Pastor Javier Bridges officiating.
