

Marcella Carolyn “Sue or Luke” Howard, age 72 of Gahanna, died peacefully Wednesday June 27 at her residence. She was born in Huntington, W. Va. On April 17, 1940 to Kerns and Verlia Lucas. She is preceded in death by her parents and by a sister Avinell McDonough. Luke is survived by her husband of 43 years, John (their anniversary is June 28), a brother Ronnie (Shirley) Lucas, brothers- in- law Joseph (Bonnie) McDonough, Michael Howard, Thomas (Rebecca) Howard and by beloved nieces and nephews: Jeanie (Ken) Burch, Jerri( Frank) Churchill, Kathleen Howard, Elizabeth Howard, Greg(Kim) Lucas, Joseph Howard and Douglas Howard. She is also survived by great nephews Kerns Winston, Frankie Sue, Griffin Churchill , Jacob, Noah, Aaron Lucas and by a great niece Hope Lucas.
Carolyn was a 1958 graduate of Huntington High School and a 1962 graduate of Marshall College (University). Her working career was with the Gahanna Jefferson School District where she taught for 30 years and coached several sports (most prominently, Women’s Basketball). She was recognized for excellence in these areas as a “Cornerstone” Award recipient and was also inducted into The Gahanna Lincoln Athletic Hall of Fame and the District 10 Athletic Hall of Fame for her coaching. Carolyn loved spending her summers on the Big Rideau Lake in Ontario, Canada with family and friends while beating the lake to a froth in search of the next “keeper”. She caught many fish and even more friends there. She also loved her poker and other card games with her “group” and her neighbors. She will be greatly missed by her dogs Rocket and Bambi and by her husband. Her faith in God sustained her all her life and now takes her to God. The family will receive friends 5-8pm Friday at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel 1051 East Johnstown Road (at Beecher Road) Gahanna. Prayer Service at 8pm. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held 11am Saturday June 30, 2012 at Saint Matthew The Apostle Catholic Church at 807 Havens Corner Road Gahanna, Ohio. Interment 10:30am Monday July 2, 2012 in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington WVA. Contributions may be made to the Charitable Works Committee at Saint Matthew Catholic Church or Hospice of Mt.
