

In 1956, Margaret graduated from the Columbus School for Girls. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and Nursing, as well as a Mater's Degree in Adult Education. Margaret taught at Hamilton Township High School, Columbus Adult Day School, Everet Middle School and Centennial High School.
She loved horses and saddle seat riding and shared her love of horses with her children. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and embroidery, and poetry which she had won several awards for. Margaret also helped to raise and take care of 36 foster children.
Margaret was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Phillip and Nigda Knies M.D; mother, Elsie Wood Knies; second husband, Ulysses Whiteis; third husband, John Handley; daughter, Debra Gayheart; and son, Phillip Whiteis.
She is survived by her sister, Kate Knies; children, Steve (Donna Villareal) Grill, Kathy (Michael) Norris and Elsa (Mark) Whiteis-Enyart; grandchildren, Paul Grill, Damien (Salem) and Hannah Yerian, Anna Gayheart, Jason, Josephine and Joshua Whiteis; daughter-in-law, Mary Whiteis; first husband, Russ Grill; stepchildren, Kitty (Steve) Goodwin, April (Steve) Miller and Kay (James) Franks; step grandchildren, David (Jen) Goodwin, Grant Severt and Jon (Magda) Rodock and Elizabeth (Steve Garcia) Rodock; and many step great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held for the family on Monday, October 4, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a local humane society or hospice center.
