

Marilou Hodgkin, 66, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, with family at her side. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her steadfast presence brought comfort and strength to everyone around her. Her unwavering spirit shaped the lives of those she loved in profound and miraculous ways.
She was a proud veteran, serving in military intelligence, reflecting both her sharp mind and commitment to protecting the freedoms she cherished. Her love of American ideals and personal liberty was central to her. She worked many years with the United States Postal Service, where she retired in 2024.
Marilou rarely sat still, always finding purpose in caring for others and tending the gardens of life. Her loving kindness took root and blossomed in those around her. A woman of deep faith, Marilou loved and honored Jesus Christ through every season of life. Her faith shaped her character and provided clarity and peace. Her enduring spirit will undoubtedly continue to guide her loved ones through both ordinary days and life’s greatest challenges.
Marilou shared 28 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Vernell Hodgkin, who preceded her in death. She is cherished and remembered by her children: Nichole (Brian) Pemberton, Darren (Kiersten Aubre) Palmer, Stephen Palmer, and Zachery (Jenna) Palmer; and her grandchildren Quentin, Livvi Lou, and Maylee. She is survived by her siblings Eleanor (Robert) Bohmer, John (Maria) Wolfe, and Robin (Donald) Auckerman. She was preceded in death by her sister Glena (Bongo) DeAugustine. Marilou, also known as Aunt Grandma, will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, their children and extended family, all of whom were blessed by her kindness, guidance, and comforting presence. She also held a special place in her heart for her grandcat, Percy, and granddogs Kevin, Toby, and Buster, who brought her great joy and companionship.
A celebration of Marilou's life will be held in Richmond, Indiana, in the spring; additional details will be shared in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes acts of kindness or charitable contributions made in Marilou's memory.
