
Marilyn "Lyn" Fisher, 80, of Circleville, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013, at her residence.
She was born May 11, 1932 in Columbus, the daughter of Walter Frederick and Mildred (Matheny) Gauggel. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Mary Rose. Lyn graduated from Columbus West High School and then Capital University with licensure as a medical technologist. She conducted research with Rhesus monkeys at OSU under the direction of Dr. Samuel Saslaw and later worked in a research lab in San Diego. Upon returning to Ohio, she gained certification in Elementary Education and later earned her Masters degree from the University of Dayton. After teaching school for one year in Circleville, she later taught and concluded her career at Jackson Township Elementary at Westfall Local School District where she created the Jackson Elementary Land Lab. After retirement, Lyn remained involved in education as a literacy tutor. Lyn was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served for many years as a Sunday School superintendent and Pre-School board member, as well as director for one year. Lyn also sang in the choir at Trinity, was a member of Free to Be and Do and the Martha Circle and was instrumental in designing and maintaining Trinity's Biblical Garden. Lyn fueled her love of gardening as a founding member of both the Gardenwood Garden Club and the Pickaway County Master Gardeners. She also enjoyed attending meetings of The Wild Ones - Native Plants in Columbus and designing the Children's Garden at the Pickaway County Public Library. Lyn was a member of the Pickaway County Retired Teachers and had been a Girl Scout leader and unit service director. She and her husband, Dick, also cherished their hosting experiences of AFS Exchange students, Jule Lempfert (Germany) and Klever Salas (Ecuador). In recent years, Lyn pursued her interest in watercolor and acrylic painting and enjoyed sharing her love of art with others.
Lyn was a kind, caring, compassionate woman who loved her family, her church, her friends and the many children she had the privilege of teaching. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Lyn is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Richard "Dick" Fisher of Circleville; daughters, Linda (Jack) Knicely of Baltimore, OH and Kathryn Elizabeth (Michael) Green of Columbus; son, Richard Bradley (Nicole) Fisher of Ashburn, VA; 7 grandchildren, Hayley and Lucas Knicely, Brian Williams, Carly Green, Sarah, Emily and Nickolas Fisher; many beloved friends and family members.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Circleville with The Rev. Dr. Gerhard Kraus officiating. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Cemetery, West Broad St. in Galloway. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home.
