

Marilyn S. Martin, age 84, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Mayfair Village. Marilyn was born on July 24, 1927 in Murray City, Ohio; she was the daughter of the late Merrill and Margaret Shaeffer. Marilyn was also preceded in death by sisters, Sarah Jane Rockhold and Ruth Ann Lare; nephew, Eugene Lare; and cousins, Priscilla Crawford and James Schaeffer. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Frank Martin; brother-in-law, Paul Rockford; nephew, William (Brigid) Lare; and cousin, Douglas (Evelyn) Crawford; and Jean Shaeffer. Marilyn was a 1945 graduate of Montpelier High School, where her class stayed very close. She went on to receive her B.A. from Heidelberg University in 1949, where she was active in the Phi Society. Marilyn started her career at Citizen Journal as a secretary; she then worked at Columbia Gas as a customer representative. Marilyn went on to retire from the City of Upper Arlington Clerk of Courts after 21 years of service. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed animals, especially her Labrador Retrievers. Marilyn enjoyed early American decor and made several trips to Williamsburg. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221; where funeral services will be on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11am.
