

Mark Kane Carroll, 58, of Upper Arlington, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 30th at the Kobacker House after an 11 year battle with cancer. Mark was born December 8, 1956 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mark leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Lisa, and two children, his son Jay and daughter Jacqueline. He is preceded in death by his father, John D. Carroll, Jr., his brother, John D. Carroll III, and step-father, Harold Varnau. His remaining family includes his mother, Ann Kane Carroll, sister Martha Stephen, brother-in-law Joe Stephen, nephew Johnny, brother Matt Carroll, sister-in-law Laura Kleinman, and nephews Harry and Joseph Carroll. Mark was a graduate of Moeller High School, attended University of Cincinnati, and was an entrepreneur who was both Founder and President of Innovative Solutions and Software for the past 24 years. Mark was a scratch golfer, enjoyed water and snow skiing, tennis, boating, running, and coaching youth sports. He served as Athletic Director for St. Agatha Parish, and was a USSF soccer referee, serving as Treasurer on the Ohio South State Referee Committee.
Mark believed in service of others. Mark generously shared his talents, dedicating time for community service. This included volunteering roles with The Memorial Tournament, The Wendy's Championship for Children, Columbus Marathon, and the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational, the latter of which he earned recognition as Volunteer of the Year in 2009. He was given this award by Hines Nicklaus Sullivan Sports Group for his outstanding leadership and contribution as On Course Services Captain.
Mark's faith was the foundation of his strength and positive attitude. He was an active member of St. Agatha Parish for 25 years, and was a lector there for the last 15. Mark enjoyed volunteering his I.T. expertise for the development of St. Gabriel Catholic Radio's website. Mark was honored to be chosen as a Delegate for the Inaugural LIVESTRONG Cancer Summit in Austin, Texas in 2006. After being hit by a drunk driver, Mark aligned with MADD and testified to the Ohio State Senate, and was present when Governor Taft signed into law Compensation Rights for Victims of Drunk Driving.
Arrangements for Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 1740 Zollinger Road in Upper Arlington from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 6, at St. Agatha Church, 1860 Northam Road in Upper Arlington at 10am.
