Our beautiful Mary Clare passed away July 9, 2025. Our family is devastated by the loss of such a gentle and kind person. Clare lived the Beatitudes. She was devoted to her family, her loving husband Jim Bauer, daughter Stephanie Doran, son Aaron Bauer, daughter-in-law Lisa Bauer and son-in-law Michael Doran.
Her four grandchildren, Caroline, Sean, Anna and Luke were the lights of her life. Grammy to them, she was their biggest fan and consummate cheerleader. She encouraged their talents and appreciated their unique personalities. The Hummer siblings Ted, Larry, Bill (Linda), Anne, Martie (Mike)Lynch and Mark (Jeanine) loved Clare’s graciousness and willingness to serve as hostess to family events. From Baptisms to joyous Fourth of July celebrations Clare worked her magic and made everyone feel welcome. Her quiet strength was continually a touchstone of comfort to all who knew and loved her.
Clare was an avid tennis player and enjoyed and supported her teammates. Her signature pies and doughnuts were coveted by many. We feel certain she has already joined her mom, dad and sister Rosi so they now have a fourth for their bridge game! For over 30 years Clare was devoted to giving her elementary students a good start to their education journey. A proud and lifelong democrat, Clare was passionate about the rule of law and social justice. She was a friend to the friendless and took seriously “whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren that you do unto Me.”
Preceded in death by her parents Earl and Winifred Hummer, her sister Rosi Davis, brother-in-law Charlie Davis, sister-in-law Lari Hummer, parents-in-law Sylvester and Lois Bauer, and great nephew Noah Hummer, Clare will be missed by her extended family of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, a zillion cousins, and many lifelong friends. Pave the way for us, dear Clare, we will hold your light in our hearts.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Road in Upper Arlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 East North Broadway Street in Columbus.
