Mary Ethel Marting Burke

Mary M Burke, age 91 of Columbus, OH, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024. Born August 22, 1933, to Robert Arthur Marting (5/8/1909-6/15/1966) and Majorie Ruth McClellan Marting (8/3/1911-7/23/2001) in Ironton, Ohio. Sister to Marjorie Lou Marting Waddell (9/24/1932-6/21/2011), Romaine Ann (11/20/1934-7/29/2018), Franklin Arthur (7/7/1936-10/16/1989), John William (8/10/1938-6/29/1994), and Robert Edward (8/10/1938-7/12/2021).

She married Peter Luke Burke, the love of her life, on 2/14/1952. They spent the next 67 years together until his passing on 6/15/2019.

Mary loved her family, home, garden, pool, sewing/crafting, The Ohio State University Buckeyes, Florida in the winter, and euchre. She enjoyed her neighborhood euchre club and family tournaments. She was known for running around the table or “sitting with the bathtub” to change her luck when playing euchre.

Mary is survived by her children Robert, Michael (Karen), and Kimberly; grandchildren Brian (Laura), Lainie (Dave), Steve, Christopher (Felicia), and Kathleen (Christopher); and great-grandchildren Talia, Everett, Toby, Margot, and Gillian; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her card club members and neighborhood friends John and Lori, Margaret and Kent, Linda, Gloria, Connie, Barbara, Dawn, Lori, Joyce, Brenda, and Anita for their care, concern, and assistance over the years.

Mary was surrounded by devoted caregivers Barbara, Sierra, Wendy, and Damberi whose expertise and loving care allowed her to remain at home while becoming a part of her family.
