Mary Alice Demas

Mary Alice Demas, 86, passed away January 3, 2017 at the Forum at Knightsbridge in Columbus. She was born and raised in Bryan, Ohio and was a 1948 graduate of Bryan High School. She was blessed in having loving, caring and devoted parents, the late Cyrus and Helen Demas, both immigrants from Sparta, Greece, and who managed to send their three children to college. Mary Alice attended The Ohio State University (dropping out two quarters short of graduation to assist in the care of an ailing parent). She subsequently continued studies at other institutions. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She lived much of her adult life in Chicago, IL and Washington, DC where she worked in advertising, promotions and radio and TV commercials. She was a beautiful person and she touched so many lives by her kindness, respect and understanding. Nearly anyone who met her was captivated by her smile and warmth and instantly liked her. She was always receptive to meeting people and making new friends. She always sought new horizons and adventures. She was an avid reader, always thirsty for learning that allowed her to examine her life. Her interests were many, but especially theatre where she performed in amateur productions. She was an active volunteer at various charities and had a special love and concern for animals. She was also a political volunteer. She leaves to celebrate her life, her sister, Margaret (George) Swatik, and brother, James (Barbara) Demas, both of Columbus and nieces, Susan (David) Specht and Julie (David) Wallace, great niece, nephews and cousins along with endearing friends, especially Vineta Carlin Hidde and Gloria Crandall from Bryan. Entrusted with her wishes, no public memorial service will take place. The family asks that friends remember her by donating their time, effort or contributions to a charity of their choice as she did throughout her life. Arrangements by Schoedinger Northwest Chapel.
