Mary Loretta (Policella) Miller, age 83, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 07, 2012 after an extended illness with thyroid cancer and its complications. Mary (known as Mimi) was born October 19, 1929 in Capracotta, Italy to the late Louis and Carmella (Borrelli) Policella, and immigrated to the United States at the age of four. She was raised in Columbus in an Italian immigrant community where she attended St.
Joseph's School, and went on to earn a Nursing Degree at St. Francis School of Nursing in Columbus in 1951. However, her true calling in life was in her devoted care to her beloved family. Along with her loving husband Ed, her life partner of 60 years, they raised their family of nine children in Youngstown (Catalina Ave) where they were members of the St. Edward Church family, where their children attended school. Mary moved with her husband and 4 of her youngest children to Philadelphia for four short years in 1980 when US Steel transferred Ed to work there. At a loss for her extended family and friends, they permanently returned and settled in Columbus (due to Ed's
retirement) to be with her mother, sister's family, most of her children, and her 16 grandchildren. In her life as a mother and homemaker, Mary provided a loving traditional home, filled with the the italian traditions of her heritage. She taught her children how to cook, to give to others, and to love God and family. She welcomed people to her home in the italian traditions of serving, and she always opened her heart to those who needed comforted. Mary's happy, warm and caring embrace endeared her to all people who crossed her path in life. Mary loved music and the arts, attending the Opera and the ballet with her only sister Elizabeth (Liz), and enjoyed singing in both the St. Edwards' Choir and St. Anthony’s Church Choir in Columbus. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward J. Miller and their children, John (Mitzi) Miller, Joyce (Steve) Kalb, Mary Jo Miller, Karen (Frank) Bresky, Janice Pangio, Jeffrey (Tish) Miller, Joseph (Karrie) Miller, James (Nancy) Miller and Gregory (Martha) Miller; also survived by her beloved sister Elizabeth Woodland of Dublin; 16 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Family will receive friends 2-6 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church,
1300 Urban Dr., Columbus, OH; Fr. Tom Petry, Celebrant; entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Anthony Choir or Mt. Carmel St. Ann Hospice.
