Heaven's chorus gained a beautiful baritone June 23 with the passing of Michael J. Mancuso, 72, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and formerly of Columbus, after a valiant two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Mikey delighted family and friends with his passion for barbershop harmony, first with the Singing Buckeyes and The Alliance and later by helping to found the Palmetto Vocal Project after moving with his wife Ann to South Carolina. He loved singing with PVP and his award-winning quartet, Infinity, and also enjoyed watching grandson Garrett Brooker win tennis championships.
Mike and Ann shared the same birthday and nearly 39 years of marriage. Mike will also be missed by daughter Kristin (Eric) Brooker, brothers Chris (Mary) and Mark (Susan) Mancuso, stepmother Kathryn Mancuso and dear cousin Dennis (JoAnn) Mitchell as well as brother-in-law Rick Mock and sisters-in-law Mary Yost (TC Brown), Joy (Jim) Brown and Margene (Brad) Power, plus many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Marie Mancuso.
Mike served in the U.S. Air Force, retired from American Airlines and most recently joined Ann in helping with estate sales in Mount Pleasant. He also loved to cook his mother's Italian specialties.
Mike's life will be celebrated July 24 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, with visitation beginning at 10:30am with a 12pm memorial service to follow. A live webcast of Mike's memorial service will be available at www.schoedinger.com shortly before his service begins.
Memorials may be sent to palmettovocalproject.com/donate; Hibben United Methodist Church, 690 Coleman Blvd., or Roper Hospice Cottage, 676 Wando Park Blvd., both in Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
