Michael E Walton, 56, died peacefully on January 23 after a long series of debilitating illnesses. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth (Schulkoski) Walton and his aunt Lucy Walton. Michael and his partner Jerry D. Ball, Sr. made a loving and supportive home for each other for the past 10 years. Michael is also survived by his two brothers Greg (Columbus) and Scott (San Francisco); sister-in-law Robin, niece Abby and nephews Seth and Ben; aunt Carol Beno and cousins Dave, Debbie, Fred and Jim. Jerry’s family became Michael’s; children, Sarah, Jerry Jr., Charity and Joshua, 5 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.
Michael attended The Ohio State University but in reality was a self-educated man, interested in many diverse things. His creativity was evident in the things he collected and how he arranged them. He was an expansive thinker, drawing conclusions and making connections far beyond most of us. In earlier years he loved to travel. He was a spiritual person. He grew up in the Lutheran Church. His search for truth and beauty took him on a varied journey which ended in a deep appreciation for Eastern thought.
Michael worked for many years as a Business Manager of cable television companies. His volunteer work in the community drew him into the non-profit world. He worked for the United Way of Franklin County as Liaison for Corporate Giving. For the last two and a half years Michael was too ill to work. Michael was a member of Trident International Columbus Ohio.
Many thanks to 8 Rhoades at University Hospital for their kind care and to Heartland Hospice who lovingly made it possible for Michael to die at home.
Michael meaningfully touched many lives. There will be a gathering for family and friends this summer.
