Lit a candle in memory of Nevin D. Colvin

Sheila, I was out of the country and just returned to hear the terrible news of Nevin's death. I wanted to impart just a few words from Gene and I, and perhaps the whole of Westbury Woods. 

Your Westbury Woods family mourned with you and Nevin over the loss of your beloved twins, rejoiced with you over the births of your darling babies, and are now deeply shocked and saddened over Nevin's death. Sheila, I really don't have the words to convey to you how much we care, and how very troubled we are by your loss. Nevin was the sparkle at our gatherings, and made everyone he spoke with feel special. We always looked forward to seeing both of you out walking your precious cargo. God Bless and keep you during these most difficult days.

He was an outstanding person, a fine athlete, and a wonderful friend to all of us when our sons grew up together in New Philadelphia. Nevin had a way of working the room during a party.  I don't believe anyone was ever a stranger to him.  His infectious smile was always present - even when he was chasing toddlers around during a birthday party.  Nevin was a fantastic dad (who else can train a 3 year old to potty train over a weekend?!) and a loving, supportive husband to Shelia.  We'll help you get through this hard time Shelia!  We love you, Nevin and the whole Colvin Family.

I guess I have known Nevin since he was just a child. I remember riding my BMX bike on our ramps close to the Colvin's house in the mid 80's. Both Heath and Nevin were there to watch us show-off. We really needed that! Great cheering section we had! 

I am so sorry to hear of Nevin's passing. I wish to express my condolences to all of the family. I will always remember him as the nice kid he was.

For being one of my boys who always used to be around the house playing cards, having football tourneys on the playstation, and just hanging out doing nothing sometimes but shooting the breeeze while he was in high school; my thoughts and prayers are with the family.  He will be sadly missed.

One of our favorite memories: Nevin and Sheila's wedding seems like just yesterday....you battled the elements that day. But what a beautiful day it turned out to be! We pray for you and are so, so saddened by this tragic loss. We'll never forget Nev's great laugh and spirit within!

Every memory of Nevin is my favorite--he had that way about him that put everyone at ease, yet his presence filled the room with energy.  My lasting impression will no doubt be New Year's Eve, watching him hold court with a glass of wine and a fondue skewer (only he could pull that off).  I will miss the healthy debates and watching you with your family--the love you gave Sheila, Gavin and Olivia will surely last a lifetime.  Our time together was far too short, but I am thankful to have known you, Nev.  You were easily the coolest choir boy ever, and I hope my son grows up to be even half the man you were.  Rest easy--you have many friends that will see your family through the tough times.  We all know the lengths you would have gone to for any of us.  Save me a seat up there so that we can continue our discussions as to what constitutes a good business venture.  You will be missed, but never forgotten.

I met Nevin in 1993 as a freshman at NPHS where we were teammates on the baseball team. I was not from Ohio, was involved with the music department, and came from a different family background than he did. Nevin didnt judge people based on things like that....he treated each and every person he met with dignity and respect. Though we didnt "hang out" outside of baseball, he ALWAYS made me feel like i was his friend. Though he was only a year older than me, i certianly did look up to him as it seemed definitive that he would grom up to be successful. He certainly did just that. If there is one thing that i learned from Nevin it is that no matter who you are or where you come from, with determination and hard work, the perfect life is always within grasp. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family, Nevin will be missed greatly by all who have ever known him.

This picture reminds me of such a happy day, when we knew the rain was coming and prayed it would stay away.  As the sky opened and the rain began to fall on us (sideways) Nevin looked to the sky and yelled, "I just needed a few minutes."  I'm so thankful for having known him, and even more thankful for Sheila to have found him.  We always put things off for another day because we think there will be time later.  Wish we'd found more time but will cherish the memories we were lucky to have.  Sheila, you're loved by so many people and these stories and tributes are a testament to that.  I'm thinking of you and the kids, and know that I, and so many others, am here for you and will do anything for you.  Much Love, Jill

I remember Nevin from New Phila High School. He was a very funny, smart, charming person who I will forever remember with a smile on his face. I am terribly sorry for your loss and for the sadness that will be felt by all those who knew him. I hope that seeing all of the happiness he has given to so many others will help to ease your grief, if even only a little. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I remember Nevin from that fourth grade classroom at East School in New Philadelphia.  What a good student.  He was always in the thick of things and there was usually always a smile on his face. I will forever remember Nevin for his ornery grin.  It took me a couple of months to know whether I could trust someone with that look on his face every day in Delphian Chorale.  It turned out that he was one of the most reliable kids I knew, and I was glad that I had someone like him in my class my first year of teaching.  I can only imagine the void that is left in his absence.

I am so very sorry to hear about Nevin's passing.  I can't even imagine how the two of you must feel.  We never think we'll ever lose a child and especially at the young age of 33.
I thought it was awful when Bob died at 63 but at 33 his life was just barely started.
I just wanted you to know I am thinking of you and praying for you.  God must have needed a young man to help him in heaven and he knew Nevin was a special young

Nevin was a very uplifting and positive person every day I would run into him at work. He had such an infectious attitude that will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, their children and his family during this time of sorrow and loss.

I met Nevin in 1993. I was a freshman playing baseball at NPHS. Though Nevin and i didnt know each other much outside of baseball he certainly made me feel like his friend. He was not judgemental and treated everyone with respect. Though i have not seen him since high school and did not know what he has been up to, it is no suprise that he went on to be successful. If there is one thing that i learned from him, it is that no matter what you life situation is, you have the power to create the kind of life that you want. He was an inspirational person in high school and clearly was later in life as well. I know that Nevin will be missed by everyone that knew him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Each time I think of Nevin I am inspired by the way in which he lived his life. He met each day with energy and enthusiasm. He brought light and life to every room he entered and took every on challenge with positive energy and action. He laughed out loud and loved openly. I will miss him but I will never forget him.  Sheila, Gavin and Olivia you are in my thoughts and my prayers.
