Norma Janet Miller, a resident of Columbus, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Friday October 2nd, 2015. Born May 19th 1933 to Mabel Jones and Norman B Henry, she was 82 years old at time of death. She was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania but grew up just a few miles away from her future husband, Richard Egolf Miller, in Somerset. Shortly after he was inducted into the army during the Korean War, they were married in Cumberland, Maryland on April 14, 1951. While he was still stationed in Japan she gave birth to Richard Henry, their first son, on April 7th 1952. After an additional 8 months of separation they were re-united in Somerset, Pennsylvania. The young family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1953 where she raised her family, enjoyed life and lived until her passing. During this time, two more children, Christina Marie (brief life of two days) and John Douglas, were brought into the family. On April 11th, 2012 she suffered the loss of her dear husband. Norma was young at heart, trying her hand at the jet ski during her 60’s; enjoyed learning, taking many art courses at Ohio State University; and loved people, especially her children and grandchildren. She always made her home a welcome and safe haven, in recent years opening her heart and home to children and young teenagers from her church. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Norma is survived by a large and loving family: son Rick (Kayleen) Ithaca, N.Y.; grandchildren Ryan (Karen) Miller, Beaumont, TX and their children: Brianna, Brayden, Zachary, Carson and Grant; Natalie (Ryan Rasmussen), San Tan Valley, AZ and their children: Coral, Peter , Lucy and Tate ; Raymond (Molly) Miller, Aurora, IL and their children: Weston, William, Kayleen and Henry; Sean (Alison) Miller, Delaware, OH; Kyle (Jessica) Miller, Aurora, IL and their daughter Kate; Trevor Miller, Aurora, IL; Kendall Miller, Ithaca, NY; Heather Miller, Kent State; and Hannah Miller, Reynoldsburg, OH; beloved sister and best friend Iona Parker, Somerset, PA; sister-in-laws Dorothy (Don) Dively, Somerset, PA ; June (Norman Henry) Baltimore, MD; and many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Norma is predeceased by her parents, brother, husband, and children: Christina (1954) and John (2011), whose children are Sean, Heather and Hannah.
Perhaps her life could be summed up as one who understood that she was a daughter of God, felt young at heart and loved her family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 10th at 11 A.M., with the family receiving guests beginning at 9 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel, located at 7135 Coffman Road, Dublin Ohio.
