

Lee graduated from West High School 1945. She played the roll of Miss Bourne alongside her life-long best friend Joan Steen in the senior year play “The Ghost Train”
She continued her education graduating from College of Nursing, Ohio State University in 1948. Lee was a proud RN and often spoke of her nursing experiences.
Lee married David Joseph Spangler, MD in 1948. She and “Davie” raised five children. After the death of her first husband, she married Paul St. Clair Metzger, MD in 1983. They completed a family of nine adult children between the two of them.
Lee will be most remembered as a nurturing mother to many children, a graduate nurse from Ohio State University. She loved sewing and was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed preparing food for her family. Lee enjoyed glass of bourbon with a lemon twist. Lee had a very sharp sense of humor.
Lee will be greatly missed by all her children: Beth Ann Oglevee (Jeff-deceased), Stephen Joseph Spangler, David Peter Spangler, Martha Lee Mattison (Alan), Michael Patrick Spangler, Julia Marie Metzger (Samuel), Daniel Achbach (Barbara), George Metzger (deceased), Edward Anderson Achbach (Mary Alice) and Janet Metzger Hull (Warren); Grandchildren: Miles Mattison (Thea), Zachary Oglevee (Lindsey), Lisa Achbach Donohue, Tara Achbach Bradley, William Achbach and Catherine Achbach; Great Grandchildren: Iris Androninki-Mattison, Theo Oglevee-Danhoff, Brayden Donohue, Nash Bradley and Wyatt Bradley.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Lee was preceded in death by her son David Peter “Pete” Spangler and sister Harriet Worthington Steece.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday 2/2/2025 at Friendship Village Dublin Ohio 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Gathering to be held at Kinsale Room (at main entrance front desk ask for Lee Metzger Celebration of Life location).
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Ohio State University Medical Heritage Center.
