Odessa Werts

Odessa Werts, age 79, transitioned on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. She was born November 8, 1943 in Saluda, South Carolina to Othell Werts and Carrie Lane. Odessa was a graduate of South High School (aka Big O). She retired from the State of Ohio Treasury department, where she was employed as the computer supervisor, and the United Postal Service.

Odessa was a former member of Gospel Tabernacle Church U.H.C. and a current member of United Faith Community Church. She was a good and faithful member and served on the ushers board. She liked to crochet and was devoted to taking care of her mother. She was very organized and loved to travel. She was a person that you could count on to get things done.

Preceded in death by her father, Othell Werts; step-father, William Ford; sister, Sallie Mitchell; and, nephew, Dale Mitchell.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Carrie Ford; daughter, Davessa Mathis; grandsons, Ramal and Tyrell; granddaughter, Nazah; great-grandchildren, Sakari, Arliyah, Lomarion, Alionna; God-children, Nijya, Chana, Chan and James; sister, Othella; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends, including special friend, Booker Sheard.

Celebration of Life, Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Gospel Tabernacle Church U.H.C., 1205 Hildreth Avenue, Columbus, OH 43203. Viewing: 10:00 A.M., Service: 11:00 A.M. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43213. Please wear SHADES OF BLUE.
