Upon graduating from high school, Opal was voted Miss Columbus because of her kindness and compassion for helping others and her popularity. After completing her studies, she joined the Ohio State Department of Treasury.
She met her future husband, Dr. James Scott Jr., at Ohio State University, where they fell in love and subsequently married. The couple later moved to Athens, Ohio, where Dr. Scott opened his private practice, and Opal played an integral role in helping to manage the office business and their real estate investments.
Opal also served as a member of the Trustees Academy of the Ohio University Cultural Arts Center. She was an avid reader and a world traveler. However, her greatest love was for her family.
Dr. Scott was deeply in love with Opal and often referred to her as "My Beauty". He frequently shared how blessed he was to have married her. He fondly reminisced, “I knew I was fortunate to win Opal’s hand in marriage, but I never imagined that one day she would actually pick a lottery ticket for me and I would win the Ohio Lotto!”
Opal is survived by her three children; Dr. Jean Opal Scott, Jennifer Lynn Underriner, and Dr. James Forrest Scott III and three grandchildren Dr. Rachael Scott, Dr. Michael Underriner, and Scott James Underriner. She is preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Agnes Adams, brother Carey Eugene Adams, sisters Mary Adams Brooks and Patsy Adams Dooley.
Opal loved her family dearly. Her greatest joy was when her three children and grandchildren came together for family celebrations. Please come and join the Scott family as we celebrate her wonderful life.
