

Paul E. Artis, 93 of Columbus, died peacefully Monday February 7, 2022 at home. Paul was born in Sciotoville, Ohio August 16, 1928 to the late Joseph and Dona Montgomery Artis. After graduating high school he worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway Co. Later he became a U.S. Army sergeant and served during the Korean Conflict. Paul worked several other jobs during his lifetime including the U.S. Steel Corporation in Gary, IN which he retired from in 1985. He was a longtime member of the American Legion. Paul was a proud American veteran, strong willed, kindhearted, empathetic, and generous. He rarely forgot important dates, especially family and friends birthdays. Paul was a true fanatic of most sports. His TV and radios were usually on simultaneously so he wouldn't miss a play. He was mostly a baseball enthusiast, favoring the St. Louis Cardinals. In between sports, he enjoyed watching classic movies and reading. Before his health declined, he and Rosemary enjoyed dancing and also traveling, especially along the Michigan coast. Paul is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Rosemary Underwood; stepdaughter, Peggy Holsinger; brothers Homer, Chester, Leonard and Glenn Artis, and sister V. Eloise Stevens. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Linda Besco of W. Portsmouth; stepsons James Flowers of Waverly and William Elizondo-Flowers of Apache Junction, AZ.; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday, February 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL 6699 N. High Street Worthington, Ohio. A private graveside service at the Lucasville Cemetery will be held at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion or Mid-Ohio FoodBank.
