Paul Andrew Thompson, age 52, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 after a hard-fought, 12-year battle with Lewy body dementia. Paul was born on June 20, 1973 in Smithville, Ohio. Paul was a graduate of Wadsworth High School and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He played trombone in the marching band, where he made many lifelong friends amid laughter and plenty of good-natured trouble. He spent his professional career at JP Morgan Chase as a programmer, manager, and mentor.
Paul loved traveling the world with his family and friends. While traveling, he enjoyed off-the-beaten-path adventures, meticulously exploring museums, and engaging with historical reenactors. His trips to Jasper, Canada with his wife, Betsy, were so meaningful to them that they chose to name their son Jasper in its honor. Paul approached life with a sharp, curious mind and a constant desire to learn and understand more. His kindness to others knew no bounds. He loved nature and experiencing everything it had to offer. While he was an avid cyclist and hiker, he was always eager for outdoor adventures, including kayaking, rock climbing, and horseback riding. Paul loved telling stories about his adventures through photos. Whether he was backpacking through the mountains of Wyoming or marveling at his newborn son, he always had a camera in hand.
Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents Muriel and Harold Stebbins. Paul will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 18 years Betsy (Miller) Thompson; son Jasper Thompson; parents James & Kathleen (Stebbins) Thompson; sister Christine (Brian) Elmore; niece Elizabeth (O’Hara) Thornton; nephew Benjamin O’Hara; mother-in-law Mary Kay Miller; father-in-law Bill Miller; brother-in-law Tom Miller and best friends Derek Ochs and Ben Ruedlinger.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 2:30 PM in Burkhart Chapel at First Community Church South Campus,1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus OH 43212.
