Polly was a calm, intellectual presence, always ready with a kind word and a story to brighten someone’s day. She loved gardening and caring for her pet cats, as well as the many neighborhood strays she welcomed and treated as her own.
She was a creative soul, sewing many quilts that she later entered in art shows and donated to the Just North Congregational UCC and the African Quilting Parish.
She earned degrees in library science from Antioch College (bachelor’s) and the University of Pittsburgh (master’s). Polly later retired from Chemical Abstracts Services.
In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Justus, and her son, Leonard Bean.
She is lovingly remembered by her sisters Patricia “Patti” Astle (Harry) and Rebecca “Becky” Ross, and by her brothers Daniel “Dan” Hodges (Marcia) and David Hodges. Polly also leaves behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She cherished the friendship of Andrea Diehl and Kathleen “Kate” Purcell.
Polly will be deeply missed by her Ohio family—Steve, Brandi, Kaye, and Seth Nicholson—who would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Friendship Village of Dublin and the Rowan House Team for the care and support they provided throughout Polly’s journey.
Her life will be remembered with service at 10:30am, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where a visitation will follow services until 12:30PM. She will be privately laid to rest in Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Columbus Linus Project.
