

Pericles Vlahos, age 89, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 in Wheeling, Illinois. Pericles was a resident of The Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Center. He was born on January 20, 1931 in Exanthia, a village on the island of Lefkas, Greece, to the late Zoy and Margarita (Fotoglou) Vlahos.
Mr. Vlahos was a farmer and later a tavern owner in Greece. During a period of political turmoil in his home country, he and his family immigrated to the United States in 1968. For more than twenty years, he and his wife operated Clossman Dry Cleaners in Zanesville, Ohio. He loved Greek music and dancing, tinkering in his workshop, was an avid reader, and enjoyed travel. Following a move from Zanesville to Columbus, Ohio, he was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
In addition to his parents, Pericles was preceded in death by his wife, Voula, and his sisters Stamata and Konstantina (Dina).
He will be greatly missed by his brother Nikko (Theresa) Vlahos of Zanesville OH; children Georgia Vlahos of Evanston IL, Rita (Scott) Smithers of Toledo OH, George (Nancy) Vlahos of Orland Park IL, Emily (Randy) Gerber of Upper Arlington, OH, and Gus Vlahos of Libertyville IL; grandchildren Emily, Zoe, Nikko, George, Sophie, Maria, Kristina, Athan and Novak; nephew Athan Vlahos; and many relatives in Greece.
A private service will be held for the family. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Zanesville, Ohio. A celebration of life will be planned for the summer of 2021.
