Pete was born July 16, 1933 in Columbus and was a 1951 graduate of Linden McKinley High School. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army in the 101st ABN Military Police Company. Pete worked for the C & O Railroad in Columbus for five years before becoming a self-employed carpenter and residential contractor for Woods Garage Builders. Upon his retirement, Pete passed his business on to his youngest son, James, now known as JW Excavating.
Pete was a member of the AMVETS, enjoyed attending car shows, and was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He was good at working with his hands, woodcarving, and always enjoying his different hobbies. Pete liked to socialize and still met with his school buddies once a month. Pete had conviction that allowed him to overcome a lot of adversity in his life. He loved spending time with the grandkids and family, will be remembered for his jokes, and will be deeply missed.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ovid Sr. and Mable Woods; brothers, Arnold, Leland, and Ovid Jr. “Woody”’ and sister, Lois Abbott. Pete will be missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary; sons, Steven (Carmen) Woods and James (Randa) Woods; grandchildren, Nicholas, Devin, Jim, and Hunter; brother, Neal (Pat) Woods; sisters-in-law, Nora and Betty; and brother-in-law, David Harvey.
Private family services will be held. Special thanks the Mount Carmel Hospice Team and Schoedinger Funeral Service.
