

Philip Foley Allen, 81, of Whitehall, Ohio, died September 24, 2012. Born September 20, 1931, in Norwich, Ohio, the youngest child of Rollin A. and Katherine Foley Allen. Phil married Anita Ruth Sims on December 26, 1954 and had 2 children. He received his B.A. from Muskingum College and his M.A. from The Ohio State University. Phil completed additional graduate studies at the University of Georgia and Western Michigan University. He taught school for Whitehall City Schools for 35 years where he also served as a football, basketball, and golf coach. He served as treasurer of the Ohio High School Golf Coaches Association for over 30 years and as a trustee/past president of American Legion Buckeye Boys State Foundation since 1974. An avid athlete, Phil was a member of the John Glenn High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the Ohio High School Golf Coaches Hall of Fame, the Buckeye Boys State Hall of Fame, and the Muskingum College Athletic Hall of Fame. In addition to teaching, Phil served on the Whitehall City Council for 20 years, 4 years on the Whitehall City School Board and Director of Public Safety for the City of Whitehall from September, 1997 to December, 2003 and again from January, 2008 to December, 2011. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Phil is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anita Sims Allen; daughter, Abbe True Allen DeBolt (Steven); son, Philip Lon Allen; grandson, Philip Colin Allen; granddaughter Carly Rae Allen; brother, James Allen; and former daughter-in-law, Toni Bailey Allen; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday, September 28, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, 43232. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phil’s memory to The Wilds or the Whitehall Education Foundation.
