Phillip Dean Styer, age 66, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021, at his residence. Phillip was born on April 20, 1955, in Marion, Ohio, to the late Paul and Esther (Fletcher) Styer. Growing up on a farm in Magnetic Springs, Ohio, Phil learned the value of hard work. After receiving his master’s degree, he spent his career at the Ohio Department of Health as a program administrator, working tirelessly to support the health of the underserved of Ohio. Retiring just five years ago, Phil enjoyed spending his time reading, writing poetry, swimming and you could often find him at the Grandview Grind swapping stories over a cup of coffee or enjoying a meal at any of his favorite restaurants. Phil was funny, genuine and wise; he cultivated peace. And like his son Marcus, to Phil there were only friends and friends he’d not yet met, and he found every one of them fascinating. His greatest joys were his children and grandchildren, always beaming with pride and never shy to tell you about them. Preceded in death by his son Marcus. Phil will be deeply missed by his loving son Jon (Sara) Styer; daughter Lauren (Matthieu) Patris Debreuil; reverse step-son Rob Casavant; grandchildren Luka, Leo, and Vera; siblings Brian (Deb) Styer, Shellie (Kevin) Boerner, and James Styer. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021, at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. with a short Remembrance Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. at Griggs Reservoir Shelter House #5. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grandview Heights Public Library, GHPL.org or The Burkhart Center, theburkhartcenter.org.
